Wide angle lens on a drone...

March 29th 2026   |   Where ever you want it to be...

Up until the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, the Standard lens on a single or triple lens-equipped drone, was a 24mm equivalent.  When the new Mavic 4 Pro drone came out with its triple lens combo, the standard "widest" lens passed from 24mm to a 28mm equivalent, which for some of my mandates, this did not suit at all.  Projects like the changing of the roof at the Olympic Stadium, and the STM Blue Line Metro expansion construction sites, require a much broader overall coverage, in order to avoid having to file for a COAS permission, and fly above the reglemented 400' limit.

We found the StartRC Wide-Angle lens attachment, that expands the Field of View from the native 72° to a much wider 110°, to be extremely useful.  It features a magnetic snap-on design and is made of a multi-coated glass to maintain image quality.  Aside from slight "fish-eye" type image distortion (which is easily removed with +9.00% image correction in PhotoShop), this wide angle lens is near perfection.
