Montreal's Bell Centre played host to the first of two nights, as Genesis continued their "Last Domino? Tour".  It was impressive to see how the crowd gave such a huge tribute to Phil Collins, recognizing the lifetime achievement of the artist.

C'est a l'Astral de Montréal que fut présenté la toute premiere date de tournée, du nouveau spectacle... Ô Psychologue, de Sally Folk, qui n'est rien de moins, qu'un beau mélange d'un excellent spectacle musicale et de comédie.

Andy St-Louis a réchauffé la scène, avec une thématique toute aussi légèrte et drôle.

Illumi 2021-2022...

Vendredi le 29 Octobre 2021  |  Site Cavalia (Laval)

Illumi ouvrais ces portes Vendredi le 29 Octobre, afin de présenter plus de 80% de nouveaux modules, incluant les dinosaurs animé!  Une magie visuelle qui ne cesse d'impressioner petit & grand.

La thématique d'Halloween prendra fin le 15 Nov, afin de laisser place au modules de Noël.

Our new "Associate"...

On this day, our little enterprise grew, as we brought home our new associate... Pixel.  (she obviously had to bare a name associated with photography)

Well ok, she'll be more of a mascot than an associate, but will nevertheless be present (and most likely provide ample entertainment) while we edit your projects. 

Born on March 11th 2021, she is an Aries, and what she may lack in experience, she more than makes up for it, in drive!

Let's all give a warm welcome to Pixel! 
Hopefully she'll be part of the SNAPePHOTO team for many years to come. 

Destiny, between human & horse...

Less than 6 months ago, Maygan and Ravel had never met, and today, after vigorous training, these two seem to perform in perfect harmony.

Maygan, a 25 year-old entrepreneur, that owns & operates Ma Sellerie Maygan since 2017, heard of a 12 year old Oldenburg purebred, that needed rescue, and rose to the occasion, to not only care, but even make him into a competitive show jumper.  Quite impressive for a horse that had no jumping experience whatsoever.

These two are simply superb together!

Paddleboard shoot...

Monday June 7th 2021  |  Chertsey, Que.

With the sport of Paddle Boarding becoming so popular, we decided to invite our friend Daria for a quick shoot, while our stay at the "Loma-Sur-Le-Lac" chalet, in Chertsey, Que.

What better time to make use of two new lenses (50mm f/1.2 & 90mm macro), than with a gorgeous model, and a bug-filled environment.  We even took out the drone for a few aerial pics.

Moto Nation, Weekend 1 - 2021...

29-30 mai 2021  |  Circuit ICAR

La popularité du sport continue a se faire sentir, avec Moto Nation qui affichait "complet" pour la première fin de semaine de la saison.  Cette année la formule es composé de 4 groupes (Rouge, Orange, Jaune et les Verts).  Un total de 120 pilotes ont fait du lapping sur le superbe circuit ICAR.

Notre mandat... de capter des images de chaque heat, de chaque groupe, tout au long de la journée, et de rendre disponible nos clichés au pilotes désirant avoir non seulement un souvenir, mais aussi un comparatif d'évolution de leurs technique.

Simon Leoza, lancement d'album...

L'enregistrement vidéo du lancement de l'album a eu lieux à la Maison symphonique de Montréal. La maison de disque de l'artiste nous a confié le mandat de capter les images de l'événement.

We had the tremendous pleasure of working with Sebastien Charpentier, Enduro eBike rider, at the Ste-Adele course, where he demonstrated the definition of extreme sports.  To say the least, this is an activity that requires "muchos cahones".

Laval Rockets' last game of the season, shall be remembered by the youngsters, as Carey Price & Brendan Gallagher joined the line-up, as a return-from-injury "prep game" for the upcoming play-offs in the NHL.

We were approached by Vanessa to work with her on a shoot, at the location of her choice, The Farsides Resto-Bar.  The model was already having her make-up done upon our arrival, so we scoped the area to see what we had to work with.

The manger was more than friendly, and the place had a lot to offer in regards to shoot, although our limited timeframe.  Still, we captured some interesting  shots.

L'entreprise Veolia Water Technologies de Ville Saint-Laurent, nous a mandaté, afin de capter des images aeriennes de leurs installations a Casselman, Ont.

Cette nouvelle technologies d'usine de traitement des eaux usée, deviendra surement la nouvelle norme de l'industrie d'ici peu, vue sa performance, et faible besoin en supperficie, contrairement au étangs aérés.

The Laval Rocket played a gut-wrenching game against Alex Galchenyuk and his teammates, at Montreals' Bell Centre. This one went all the way, as Alex Belzile clinched the 5-4 win after a shoot-out goal.

Sony Canada nous a gracieusement fait pret de la nouvelle a1 qui dois sortir sur le marché a la mi-Mars.  Ceci dit, quoi de mieux qu'un éssaie d'images en action, qu'une pratique de snowcross sur circuit fermé!?!

De superbe conditions, non seulement la température, mais aussi la piste et les participant(e)s.

Our impressions of the Sony a1...

Friday February 12th 2021  |  Out and about...

Sony Canada was nice enough to lend us a pre-production model of the newly announced a1 unit earlier this week, in order to get our impressions.  Let's make something perfectly clear here... my impressions are exactly that, MY impressions, based on using the unit for various mandates. I'm not paid or influenced by Sony in any way.

How we're viewing this unit is simple...  a combination of a really high resolution studio camera (50MP), with the highest speed sports camera (30FPS), all in one, along with 8K video.  We don't do video, so I won't be touching that aspect of the camera.

For having had the a7RIV and have the a9ii cameras as current my arsenal, we had expectations, and like some, several doubts pertaining to Sony's claims, and much to our surprise, all that was claimed met or exceeded our needs.

FAST... no not really..., the a1 is LIGHTING fast, and with the proper memory card, the buffer clears up even faster than the a9ii, even with those larger files. We also noticed that the camera "wakes up" much faster, which is a welcome asset when working with multiple units.

We only had the chance to use the "Human" Eye AF, but in difficult situations, such as ice hockey & snowcross, where the subjects had helmets/masks.  A big 2 thumbs up for the efficiency.  Looking forward to using the animal & bird AF features, once we receive our own unit.

The dual-dual slots... each of the 2 slots accepts both the CF Express type A cards, with contacts facing one way, and SD cards with contacts facing the other, without the risk of inserting them in the wrong way. Smart, and convenient.

Unlike the switch from the a9 to the a9ii, Sony has decided to make the a1 with a9ii compatible components, both the vertical battery grip, and batteries.  For those of us with several of each, that's a nice trait expense wise.

The EVF (Electronic View Finder) is larger than on the a9ii, and double the resolution.  To honest, it's almost TOO nice, that's how clear it is.  One thing that we found annoying on the a9ii, which they fixed on the a1, is when you're wearing a fluorescent accreditation bib, on the a9ii the EVF would be constantly on, and the image would be restrained to the EVF only, unless you'd slightly pop out the screen.

The question we've all been asking... "What about high ISO"?  Judging on my comparison between the a9ii and a1 at 25,600 ISO, the a1 is nicer, and considering the amount of pixels, that's a huge improvement.

Since this was a pre-production model, not all options of the camera were activated, but we did successfully try the "tether to cell phone" feature.  We think it's important to note that at the time we tested the unit, Adobe had yet to release a Camera Raw update, so all images were captured were done so in JPG format.

After using the a1 in multiple scenarios, our opinion is clear, Sony is now leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. It's time for the two other major players to play "catch up". The future in photography will be interesting to see, but for the time being, there's no other place I'd rather to be, than holding this superb unit. For the type of mandates we do (Studio, Sports & Events), the a1 is a total beast, and ours are on order!

Rocket de Laval...

On pourrais difficilement imaginer une meilleur occasion pour faire l'essaie du nouveau boitier Sony, que lors d'un match de hockey de l'AHL.  Ce match opposant le Rocket de Laval versus les Senateurs de Belleville, a fait en sorte de bien évaluer cet appareil qui fait beaucoup jaser, vue sa résolution et grande rapidité.

Un compte rendu complet de nos impressions sera fait, une fois qu'on auras eu la chance de faire quelques mandats supplémentaire.

A noter que ces images on été captés en format JPG, car Adobe n'as pas encore rendu dispobible la mise a jour du Camera Raw qui pourras faire la lecture de ces fichiers natifs, puisque que la Sony a1 n'est pas encore sur le marché.

Si vous n'avez pas encore eu la chance d'aller faire votre tour sur le site, c'est l'activité parfaite en ce temps de confinement.  Puisque le parcour ce fait en voiture, c'est d'autant plus sécuritaire et respecte automatiquement la règle de distanciation sociale.

Nous avons eu l'immense plaisir d'y faire quelques photos pour Cavalia hier, donc on vous présente quelques exemples... ICI
